We are seeking an individual with strong measurement
expertise to participate in a comprehensive initiative to restructure
public education in Virginia. Our efforts focus on student outcomes
which integrate knowledge and skills from across disciplines.
The primary responsibility for this position is to help design
and develop measures for students in grades four through eight
as an integral part of a comprehensive yet efficient achievement
monitoring system. The successful candidate will lead and serve
on interdisciplinary teams with measurement and content specialists
and theoreticians in the Department, from within the state, and
across the country to help develop a balanced, reasoned, and carefully
researched assessment system that facilitates student learning.
Qualifications:
This position requires both experience in
student assessment and graduate training in educational measurement,
with knowledge of both item-response and classical theory based
development techniques. applicants must be able to present complex
information to both technical and lay audiences, to work effectively
in a team environment, to manage diverse, complex projects, and
to coordinate multiple assignments with critical deadlines. The
focus of this particular position is on the development of assessment
materials for students in elementary and middle school, therefore,
experience in the assessment of children at this developmental
level is critical. Because Virginia, like other states, will
consider both traditional and "alternative" measures
in its assessment system, a candidate's direct experience with
a wide range of assessment methods is very important.
Experience with the public schools is required.
An earned doctorate in measurement or a related field is preferred.

abilities.
the salary range of $33,568 - $51,253 for
this position is negotiable.
